How to Choose the Right Security Door for Your Home

A security door has to suit the opening, the location and the way you use the entrance. A design may look right in a photograph, but the measurements and opening direction still have to work at your home. These four checks will help you narrow down the right option before you order.

1. Measure the building opening

Start with the clear width and height of the opening in the wall, measured in millimetres. The size of an existing door leaf alone might not tell us what frame will fit. Product sizes on our security-door listings refer to the required building opening; for example, the A016 stable security door specifies an 860 × 2050 mm opening.

If you are unsure where to measure, send us a straight-on photograph of the entrance along with the width and height you have. We can help you check what else is needed before an order is confirmed.

2. Choose a material that suits your location

Tell us if the door will be installed near the coast. Material and finish matter in that environment. Some cold-rolled steel and stainless-steel models in our range are not recommended for coastal conditions; we can guide you toward a suitable galvanized-steel option and advise on care for the specific model.

For example, the 325 Black Crack security door is made from galvanized steel and has a textured powder-coated finish. Our B023 golden-brown stable door is cold-rolled steel, while the A016 is black stainless steel. Their different constructions make it worth checking suitability before choosing by appearance alone.

3. Confirm the opening direction

Security doors may have In-Left and In-Right options. Look at the available space around the entrance and tell us which way the door needs to open. A photo is useful here, because “left” and “right” can mean different things depending on where someone is standing. We will confirm the correct option with you before you place an order.

4. Compare the practical features

Look beyond the front finish. Check whether the model is supplied with a frame, handle and lockset, and choose a layout that suits daily use. Our 325 Black Crack model, for example, is supplied with a matching frame, handle and multi-point lockset and comes in single, pivot and double sizes. A stable door such as the A016 has upper and lower sections that open and lock separately.
